Friday 25/12/15 Christmas Day Lunch

Today we joined 35 local residents who would otherwise have been on their own, for Christmas Lunch. Maggie Shelton and her team of helpers, used The Guide Hut in West Town Park, Hayling Island  to cook and serve a lovely lunch. The Hut was adorned with festive decorations and there was entertainment and a free raffle.

Thank you very much for inviting us, I know everyone had a great time, you must have worked so very hard for weeks arranging everything.

Tuesday 22/12/15 Mayor of Havant’s Charity Ball

What a wonderful evening we all had at Warner’s Lakeside Holiday Village. Around 150 of us sat down to an excellent meal followed by a very good show put on by the resident Entertainments Team. The Band then played music  for dancing that everyone joined into.

We were raising money for our Community Chest which is being distributed as it is raised to local good causes in the Havant Borough.

Monday 21/12/15 Havant Royal Mail Sorting Office

What fun we had, calling in to wish all the Royal Mail staff at Havant a Happy Christmas. A really great crowd of girls and boys.

Sunday 20/12/15 St Faiths and Havant Rotary Carol Service

The second Carol Service we attended today was a more traditional one. I gave one of several readings and we sung Christmas Carols. It really was a lovely service.

The church was full of residents, members of the church and Rotarians. We were pleased to chat with many we knew after the service. Once again,  Mulled Wine and Mince Pies were served. We are enjoying this festive treat.

Sunday 20/12/15 Carols in the Community

Held at Hayling Island Community Centre, this afternoon we joined residents for Carols in the Community. It was lovely to meet so many people we knew enjoying the service.

Led by Wendy Adams Evans, on behalf of Churches Together on Hayling, it was a very modern Carol service, with Christmas songs as well.

We enjoyed the warm mulled wine and mince pies that were served to everyone before the service.

 

 

Saturday 19/12/15 Panto at the OK Corral

This evening, we went to the final performance of “Panto at the OK Corral”, performed by the Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society, at The Station Theatre.

As always the standard of acting was very high, with great singing and dancing and much laughter. We enjoyed it very much as did the packed theatre.

Friday 18/12/15 Unison Christmas Party

This evening we went to Havant and Waterlooville Football Club, where we called in at the HBC Officers Unison Christmas Party.

I drew the tickets for the raffle and Christmas Hamper, then we chatted to some of the officers we knew. Leaving after an hour for them all to start some serious dancing and having fun.

Friday 18/12/15 Duke of Edinburgh Awards Tea Party

This afternoon we invited Havant Borough recipients of the 2015 Duke of Edinburgh Gold Awards to tea in The Parlour.

Of the five who were given the award in July, three along with the Havant Co-Ordinator were able to join us today.

We much enjoyed chatting with the young people and hearing about their D.O.E awards and how they gained them.

Two are now at university and one is working as a Business Consultant. I am sure they will all be successful in their chosen fields.

Thursday 17/12/15 Stakes W.I. Christmas Meeting

Never having been to a W.I. meeting before, I didn’t realise what fun the ladies had. Andy joined me and was of course the only man, but I think he enjoyed the attention. Particually the very good entertainer in her short Mrs Santa costume!

We won a lovely Christmas Hamper on the quiz and enjoyed an American Supper with a cup of tea.

Thursday 17/12/15 Springfield Christmas Party

This afternoon we were happy to return to Springfield Care Home in Emsworth for their annual Christmas Party.

There was a lovely Christmas atmosphere with a visit from Santa and singing from the “Springfield Chicks.” Members of staff who really rocked!

We enjoyed speaking to the residents, had a delicious buffet and some Buck’s Fizz.

Thursday 17/12/15 Beacon Food Bank

This morning we joined some of the wonderful volunteers at the Beacon Food Bank. In addition to the usual food hampers, they were packing Christmas Hampers for those in need throughout the Borough.

Supported by businesses and charities they provide a service needed by the less fortunate among our residents. Clients are referred to them by GP’s, Probation Officers, Social Services and other organisations. It  really was a thought provoking visit.

There is a lovely display on the ground floor of the Meridian Centre made out of tin cans, highlighting their work.

Wednesday 16/12/15 Christmas Coffee Morning

This morning we held the first Coffee Mornng of our Mayoral Year. All monies raised will go into our Community Chest.

Particually popular was the ” Name the Teddy” yes, he really was called Pooh. Name chosen by Andy,  and won by Alex.

We were entertained by the wonderful singing of the pupils of St Thomas Moore Primary School.

Monday 14/12/15 25 year Loyalty Award Tea

This afternoon Andy and I were pleased to entertain Heather Titheridge and Lorraine Horstead and their guests to a cream tea in The Parlour. Both complete 25 years service with Havant Borough Council later this week.

It was lovely to sit and chat with them, we both enjoyed the visit as we hope they did.

Monday 14/12/15 Help in Bereavement Coffee Morning

Today along with the other Harbour Mayors, Portsmouth, Fareham and Gosport, we attended the Help in Bereavement Coffee Mornng in Waterlooville. We were all happy to support a charity doing such good work in our Communities.

We also listened to carols beautifully sung by children from Berewood Primary School.

Sunday 13/12/15 St John Ambulance Hampshire-Christmas Celebration

This afternoon at Holy Trinity Church in Fareham, we joined the St John Ambulance Christmas Celebration. This was attended by the Lord Leiutenant of Hampshire and Mayors and Chairmen from across the County.

We were hosted by County Councillor Liz  Fairhurst, the President of Havant and Waterlooville St. John Ambulance.

It was a lovely service with Christmassy readings and singing of carols.
