New Archdeacon April 14th

April 14, 2013

This evening Elaine and I were invited to the Anglican Cathedral in Old Portsmouth for an Evensong Service incorporating the installation of the new Archdeacon of Portsdown.

The new Archdeacon is the Reverend Canon Dr. Joanne Grenfell, who comes to us, with her family, from Sheffield.

The Diocese of Portsdown covers Portsmouth and the whole of the Borough of Havant, plus Catherington and Horndean.

After the service we were asked to stay for refreshments in the nave, and were able to talk to Reverend Grenfell and to meet up with other clergy from the Havant area, as well as with old aquaintances.

Classic Vehicle Run April 14th

April 14, 2013

This year’s Mayor’s Annual Vehicle Run was the 9th to be held.

Starting from the Public Service Plaza there were two routes for cars and two different routes for motor cycles.

Although the weather looked anything but promising, there were still around 70 cars and 90 motorbikes there to brave the not-very-Spring-like conditions.

After being fortified with burgers and coffee, the run started at about 10:15 with the intention being to have an enjoyable mornings motoring, before finishing at the Peter Ashley Activity Centre at Fort Purbrook, where there was musical entertainment, hot food and drinks in the fort’s cafe, and the chance to look at some of the very well looked after cars and bikes.

During the afternoon the sun finally made a welcome appearance!

All of the participants were entered into a free draw, with some very good prizes to be won.

Drive carefully and enjoy yourselves!

Havant Lions April 13th

April 14, 2013

This was the 48th Charter Night Anniversary  Dinner for the Havant Lions Club and was held at the Brookfield Hotel in Emsworth.

We were met by Lion President Mike Penny and his wife Judith and then introduced to other members.

Before and during the meal we were entertained with some very good guitar playing.

After what was an excellent meal, our second of the day, the usual toasts and speeches were made. I was asked to respond on behalf of the ladies and guests, whereupon I had to confess to being a member of the Waterlooville Rotary Club. This was greeted with the usual good natured boos and hisses!

The evening finished with dancing, and catching up with friends and people we had met in the past.
