Breaking new ground April 10th

April 10, 2013

This morning I had the great pleasure of turning the first sod on the site of the new respite centre alongside Rachel Maddocks Special Needs School.

Being built by local firm Brymor for Smile Support & Care, the new centre will provide much needed accomodation for disabled young people from across the local region, and will enable their parents and carers to have some time for themselves.

The ground breaking ceremony was held before a large number of guests, together with Trustees and supporters of Smile Support & Care.

Based in Eastleigh since 1994, Smile also provides care in the community across Hampshire and West Sussex and has been working hard to raise the £3.4 million needed to fund the project. They have recently been awarded a grant of £1 million  from St. james’s place Wealth Management group. They are also one of my charities for this Mayoral year, although I can’t match that award!
