If you weren’t there, you missed a treat!
The Emsworth Concert Band, under the baton of Royal Marine Bandmaster, Dean Waller, performed a brilliant concert in front of more than 100 people in the Hurstwood Room at the Public Service Plaza in Havant. In the audience were the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Portsmouth, the Mayor and Mayoress of both Basingstoke and Winchester, the Mayor and Consort from Test Valley, and the deputies from Hart.
In a room with excellent acoustics, the band played a wide variety of tunes. Starting with Barcelona ’92, the first half also featured an overture, selections from musicals and films, Misty, with a trombone solo, and ballet music from The Red Poppy.
The second half comprised a couple of marches, more selections from musicals, music from Eastern Europe, a brilliant Xylophone solo called The Joyful Skeleton, McAnespie’s Century of progress, and the very lively finale, Sunshine Samba.
