High School Birthday Feb 15th

In the presence of, amongst others, the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth and the Mayors and Mayoresses of Fareham, Gosport and Havant, Portsmouth High School today held a celebratory service at the Anglican Cathedral in Old Portsmouth to mark the 131st Anniversary of the school’s founding in 1882.

The congregation was welcomed by the Very Reverend David Brindly, the Dean of Portsmoth, before a short speech from the Head of School, Mrs Jane Prescott.

There were readings from both the Old and New Testaments, and the Address was given by the Reverend Janice O’Shaughnessy, the Priest in Charge of Arreton, Gatcombe and Newchurch on the Isle of Wight.

Singing came from the various choirs across the whole range of ages of the pupils and there were Reflections on Wisdom by pupils from Year 13 and Year 2.

3 Year 10 pupils, then interviewed, three wise women, Mother Teresa, Elizabeth Fry and Marie curie, played by three Year 6 pupils.

The Service concluded with a blessing from the Dean.
