In the presence of, amongst others, the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth and the Mayors and Mayoresses of Fareham, Gosport and Havant, Portsmouth High School today held a celebratory service at the Anglican Cathedral in Old Portsmouth to mark the 131st Anniversary of the school’s founding in 1882.

The congregation was welcomed by the Very Reverend David Brindly, the Dean of Portsmoth, before a short speech from the Head of School, Mrs Jane Prescott.

There were readings from both the Old and New Testaments, and the Address was given by the Reverend Janice O’Shaughnessy, the Priest in Charge of Arreton, Gatcombe and Newchurch on the Isle of Wight.

Singing came from the various choirs across the whole range of ages of the pupils and there were Reflections on Wisdom by pupils from Year 13 and Year 2.

3 Year 10 pupils, then interviewed, three wise women, Mother Teresa, Elizabeth Fry and Marie curie, played by three Year 6 pupils.

The Service concluded with a blessing from the Dean.

Havant Academy Feb 14th.

February 15, 2013

Having been awarded funding from the Building Schools for the Future programme, St. Valentines Day was the date selected for the Grand Opening of the newly refurbished Havant Academy.

Around a hundred guests, teachers and students sat down to an excellent three couse meal prepared in the school’s own kitchens, and served by volunteers from amongst the students.

The evening beganĀ  with a soft-drink reception and the chance to mingle and meet some of the staff and students.

Before the meal, and between courses, we were treated to some fine singing, accompanied on the guitar and piano, by three of the students, Olivia, Emily and Kiara.

At the end of the evening the head, Mrs Julia Taylor, thanked all those who had worked so hard to enable the school to be so well improved.
