The FEVA dinghy was designed in 2002, and has been raced by young sailors ever since. This is the fifth World Championships to have been held, and is the first in the UK.

There are 179 boats here for this weeks events, and there is representation from 14 countries, many from Europe, including Estonia, Holland, Malta, Norway and Sweden, but some from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

About 50% of the boats are from the UK, and most of the two-man (or girl) teams are between 12 and 16 years old. There will be 18 races over 6 days, each lasting between ½ and ¾ of an hour. Each team will have about 4-5 hours afloat each day.

This type of event will encourage friendship and enjoyment, and tonight we saw youngsters of different nationalities getting together and singing accompanied by an English lad playing guitar.
