Annual Charity Golf Day June 25th

After the Flag Raising Ceremony, Elaine & I went to Waterlooville Golf Club in order to start this year’s Charity Golf Day.

I actually hit it!!

I actually hit it!!

With over 60 golfers signed up to play, it was my job to tee off to open the event at midday.

Never having played golf, this was always going to be a rather hit-or-miss occasion. To my great surprise, I actually managed to hit the ball and it went reasonably straight!

We then left the golfers to it prior to returning in the evening for a carvery meal, a fund raising raffle and the presentation of  trophies and prizes.

The evening meal.

The evening meal.

For the first time for several years, the annual match between councillors and council officers was won by the councillors!

One of the highlights of the evening came when Honorary Alderman Stan Massey was presented with a special trophy. Stan started the Golf Day many years ago and has supported it ever since. Over the years it has raised a great deal of money for the various Mayor’s charities. Long may it continue.
