Welsh Hymn Singing Festival (Cymanfa Ganu) June 10th

June 10, 2012

This year’s festival of Hymn singing in Welsh and English was conducted by the excellent Catrin Hughes.

The Festival, as always, took place in the United Reformed Church in Romsey. The first festival was held in Romsey in 1969 to celebrate the investiture of the Prince of Wales. It proved so popular that it has continued annually ever since then. Unfortunately though, next year will see the last Festival taking place.

As is customary, after the service, tea and Welsh cakes were served in the Crosfield Hall.

One of the four starting points for the “Round the Harbours” bike ride, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, was at the Langstone Technology Park in Havant.

With a total of over 800 cyclists taking part, a large number of them started here at just before 9 o’clock this morning.

The route is one of about 30 miles and, from the Havant starting point, goes along Portsdown Hill to Fareham, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent and into Gosport before a ferry crossing to Portsmouth and along the seafront to Eastney. Here the route splits, with the option of another ferry crossing to Hayling, and then up to the Billy Trail, or continuing along the East side of Portsmouth and along the Farlington Marshes cycle route. Both routes led to the finish back at Langstone Technology Park.

With cool weather, and possible light rain, it was almost ideal for an interesting ride, with no chance of sunstroke!
