3 Churches Waterlooville June 3rd

June 3, 2012

This evening we went to the Sacred Heart Church in Waterlooville for an ecumenical service to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The other churches taking part were the Waterlooville Baptist Church and St. George’s Church, also in Waterlooville.

During the service father Timon Singh and his daughter, Tabitha, performed the song which they have recorded in honour of the Queen.

After this I gave a short address and I was then presented with a commemorative book, signed by parishioners of the three Churches, to be forwarded to Her Majesty.

At the end of the service I was asked to cut a cake made especially for the Jubilee.

In dry, but mainly cloudy, weather the Wecock Community Association held a Jubilee party at the Acorn Centre.

Elaine & I were met by Ann Waters, Chairman of the Trustees of the Centre and, after officially opening the event, we were presented with a selection of plants and a hand painted Jubilee mug.

We were then asked to don robes for photographs as King & Queen. A number of children and adults then joined us for more photos.

There were bouncy castles and a funfair outside, together with face painting and a burger stall, plus several other activities, while inside there was pottery painting, a very good dancing display by students of the Classique School of Dance and an exceedingly difficult-to-judge cake competition.

Like Leigh Park yesterday, this was a wonderful example of the local community coming together and having a wonderful time.
