May Day Arts Trail May 19th

May 19, 2012

Today was  the start of the second weekend of the Arts Trail.

This time it was the turn of Hayling Island to highlight the vast amount of local talent in the various fields of Art. We first visited The Thursday Art Group, the members of which displayed their talents at St. Patrick’s Church Hall. They included some excellent paintings and some lovely pottery in their displays.

We then went to the lovely home of Lizzie Cornelius, which is right on the beach, to see the very different type of painting which she produces. Some of it has been made into place mats and mugs. Check out http://www.icanseethesea.com

Finally, we went to the home of Sue & Zyg Kruk. This is set on a different shoreline and their display included Sue’s etchings and prints and Zyg’s clay sculptures of animals and people. Also on display was work from other artists which they have collected, including works from Zyg’s family home country of Poland.

HBC/EHDC Staff Awards May 18th

May 19, 2012

Today saw the Annual Staff Awards at the Plaza. Many of the departments had displays of the work that they do. Elaine & I were asked to help judge the best display, along with Mark Waldron, Editor of “The News”.

At the Coastal Engineering stand

After a great deal of consideration it was decided to award the Certificate for Best Display to the Coastal Engineering team. This was a difficult decision as the standard of displays was very high.

After all the awards were presented to both Havant and East Hants recipients by Chief Executive, Sandy Hopkins, we were treated to some lively rock numbers by Havant’s own rock group, The Public Service Village People.

Then followed the raffle, after which I was blamed for not drawing the correct numbers!

After a quick change, it was full speed to our daughter’s new house in Brighton to help with the unpacking and, while Elaine looked after 1 year old Reuben, I had to plumb in the washing machine and sort out the central heating!
