02 May Planting a tree to celebrate the Mayoral year

May 2, 2012

Another milestone, to mark the nearing end of my term of office, took place this afternoon at the Legion Field, Hayling Island.

In accordance with recent tradition, each outgoing Mayor is asked by  the Hayling Tree Wardens group to plant a tree to celebrate their Mayoral year.

I was delighted to plant a sapling Ash today to commemorate 2011-2012, my mayoral term.  I hope this tree will prove to be strong and flexible in accordance with the recognised characteristics for this species.

For your entertainment, there is an old country weather forecast for the summer ahead regarding the arrival of the leaves in the spring, “Oak before Ash in for a Splash, Ash before Oak in for a soak”.  I reckon the result is still “wet” but maybe the amount is different ??!!  I appear to have brought rain but perhaps it’s not yet summer ……

02 May Mayor’s Coffee Morning, Hayling Island

May 2, 2012

I can’t believe this was our last charity fundraising event in support of my chosen charities – the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance  and  Dorothy’s Dream, The Rowans Hospice at Home Appeal ; we held this, our final charity Coffee Morning, at Hayling Island Community Centre today as my term of office concludes next week.

However, once again our friendly, stalwart stallholders supported Hazel and me with their “special goodies”  stalls – delicious cakes, creative cards, herbal remedies, plentiful plants, sparkling jewellery, tantalising tombola items and wondrous wooden items.  Hazel and I truly appreciate our friends’ goodwill and generosity; thank you and it appears attendees enjoy their products too !

We also thank everyone who attended this event and we are pleased you enjoyed your coffee and conversations in a relaxed atmosphere.  Thank you too for your contributions to the Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund supporting my chosen charities mentioned above.
